Bishop Jjumba Commissions Coffee Processing Facility for Kitanda Tukole Cooperative

Masaka Diocese – The Bishop of Masaka Diocese, Rt. Rev. Severus Jjumba, has commissioned a coffee processing facility for Kitanda Tukole Cooperative, a farmers’ cooperative that has benefited from support provided by Caritas MADDO, the development arm of Masaka Diocese.

The cooperative was established and strengthened through the CAPCA Project, which has been instrumental in training members, providing technical support, and facilitating the establishment of the coffee processing facility. The project aims to improve household incomes and create sustainable economic opportunities for farming communities through cooperative development and value addition.

During the commissioning ceremony, Bishop Jjumba praised the efforts of the cooperative members and encouraged local communities to embrace collective action through cooperatives. He emphasized that cooperatives remain an effective pathway toward economic empowerment, especially in the current challenging financial environment.

The Bishop particularly called upon young people to join cooperatives and actively participate in income-generating ventures. He noted that organized groups provide opportunities for skills development, access to markets, and improved bargaining power, all of which contribute to sustainable livelihoods.

The Director of Caritas MADDO also encouraged community members, especially the youth, to take advantage of cooperative initiatives as a means of improving their economic well-being. He commended the dedication of Kitanda Tukole Cooperative members and highlighted the positive impact that the CAPCA Project continues to have on rural communities.

In his remarks, Bishop Jjumba further urged men to take a leading role in the development and welfare of their families. He reminded them not to neglect their responsibilities as family leaders and encouraged them to actively support household development initiatives.

The newly commissioned coffee processing facility is expected to enhance the quality and value of coffee produced by cooperative members, improve market access, and increase household incomes. It stands as a testament to the successful partnership between Caritas MADDO, the CAPCA Project, and local communities working together to promote sustainable development.

The commissioning marks another important milestone in empowering farming communities and strengthening cooperative-led economic development in Masaka Diocese.
