World Day of the Sick Celebrated at Bikira Catholic Parish
A Day of Compassion, Healing, and Hope
On the eve of the dee day, Caritas MADDO organised a team of schools, local leaders and parishioners of Kyotera Parish to clean the town. Students left out classes just to have a clean and healthy Kyotera town. Local leaders like the mayor and the RDC also took part in this activity.


This act was aimed to fulfill the theme of Masaka diocese “ Let us Promote Community Hygiene and Environmental Protection Based at the Basic Christian Community.”
Kyotera District, Uganda the atmosphere at Bikira Catholic Parish was filled with warmth, compassion, and renewed hope as Caritas MADDO organized a special celebration of the World Day of the Sick. The event brought together the elderly, the chronically ill, caregivers, health workers, parishioners, and community leaders for a moment of prayer, medical support, and reflection on the dignity of every human life.
World day of the sick is Rooted in Love and Solidarity
This an annual observance established by Pope John Paul II provides a moment for the Church and the public to show solidarity with those who suffer physically, emotionally, or spiritually. At Bikira Parish, this message was lived out beautifully.
The celebration began with a Holy Mass dedicated to the sick, where the parish priest emphasized the importance of compassion and community care. He encouraged parishioners to remember the sick not only through prayer but through daily acts of love, presence, and service.
Medical Outreach Led by Caritas MADDO

Caritas MADDO under its health department, well‑known for its commitment to improving health and social welfare in Masaka Diocese, organized an extensive medical outreach as part of the event. The outreach team provided:
- Free medical checkups
- Blood pressure and diabetes screening
- HIV testing and counselling
- Nutritional assessments
- Health education sessions
- Distribution of essential medicines among others.
Health workers offered personalized care, especially to the elderly and those living with chronic illnesses who often face challenges accessing regular medical services.

World day of the sick
The World Day of the Sick is a special observance in the Catholic Church celebrated every year on February 11, the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. It was established in 1992 by Pope St. John Paul II as a way for the Church to offer prayers for the sick, recognize those who care for them, and reflect on the Christian meaning of suffering.
