Cooperatives Under SAMADI project

SAMADI Project's cooperatives

SAMADI Project is currently supporting three cooperatives (Kyazanga Twezimbe multipurpose Cooperative, Tulibumu Lwengo Farmers’ Cooperative & Katovu Malongo farmers’ Cooperative). These cooperatives are all found in Lwengo District where SAMADI works. The cooperatives are slowly progressing  though the many challenges mainly caused by the long dry seasons that halter their crops.

About the trainings and outcomes

We train member in the following; Cooperative development and governance, Lobbying and advocacy, Enterprise selection and marketing, Quality control and Financial management/Record keeping.

As a result of the trainings and financial support given to the farmers, there has been an increase in membership registration by the year 2024 as follows:

  1. Twezimbe Kyazanga multipurpose from 204 to 364 (% increase 44%)
  2. Tulibumu Lwengo from 102 to 301(% increase 66%)
  3. Katovu Malongo from 86 members to 316(% increase 72%)

There has also been an increase in the quantity of produce sold by the cooperative. This is also due to the collective marketing especially with maize. SAMADI has also registered a tremendous growth in capital base through buying of shares, investment and member subscription.
