Fish Farming Project

Fish farming sector in Uganda continues to grow faster. Therefore Caritas MADDO in conjunction with OPAM(Opera di Promozione della Alfabetizzazione nel Mondo) continue to embark on fish ponds in Masaka Diocese using sustainable fish farming techniques to support the rural poor improve their welfare in nutrition and diversify income sources as well as conserving the environment. The project targets vulnerable households organised in groups with access to land for fish farming, using sustainable fish farming techniques.

On the 30th of September,2016 an OPAM delegation visited the four fish ponds (that were stocked with 21,070 fish fingerings four months back) and they witnessed the steady progress of the project.

Once again Caritas MADDO together with donor partners Micro financing Partners In Africa-USA gave out 79 original and pregnant cows to prepared farmers in the districts of Sembabule and others. for the past six years MPA has been supporting the Cow Project to increase household income and food security to the rural poor families in Masaka Diocese through dairy farming. MPA launched  the construction and use of biogas in Rakai district in order to protect and conserve the environment besides saving the women from using smoky kitchen while preparing their meals.

Bishop inspects the theatre equipments

On the 31st December 2015, Bishop of Masaka JB Kaggwa and  Mrs. Ddungu Elizabeth(Terre Des Hommes country Director) launched an  Theatre Unit at St Andrew’s Community Health Centre in Biikira Parish – Rakai district. This theatre is to provide services to over 50,000 people in the South-Western part of Uganda especially pregnant mothers with complications during birth.


On the 24th November, 2015 Caritas MADDO through the ERI Approach funded by HORIZONT3000, organized a field day where farmers show cased matters concerning proper home sanitation and improved nutrition, food security, collective marketing, saving and credit through group formation, water harvest and biogas/energy stove technologies as well as zero grazing income generating projects.

As Caritas MADDO we have visited Sango Bay and have been touched by the alarming situation. We want to raise awareness so that we can get support to help the people with essential requirements for survival, like food and clean drinking water.

H.E Governor of Tyrol Province addresses the cooperative members that attended the event in Kasasa and Kasaali sub county in Rakai district

LISEFAP Project, on the 25th August,2015 registered another two farmer cooperative societies in its project area of Rakai district. One cooperative established a Coffee factory while the other constructed a Maize Mill and both plants were launched by the Governor of Tyrol Province, who also donated a generator and two trucks in appreciation. the essence of Cooperative societies is to promote crop value addition and collective marketing for increased farmer income.

Day of African Child

Caritas MADDO, together with Terre Des Hommes-Netherlands celebrated     “The Day of the African Child” in the District of Bukomansimbi with the participation of six Primary Schools with the Theme: 25 years after Adoption of the African Children’s Charter; Accelerating our Collective Efforts to end Child Marriage in Uganda(particularly) and Africa in general.
